Asking For What You Already Have

How do you pray? Do you ask God for what you ALREADY HAVE in Christ?

Do these sound like your prayers?

“Please redeem me. Please forgive me. Please cleanse me. Please give me access to the throne. Please don’t condemn me. Please establish me. Please give me a spirit of power, love and sound mind. Please make me your holy temple. Please give me favor with You.”

If so, you are asking God for what you ALREADY HAVE.

Notice that the verses about you (below) are in PRESENT or PAST tense. Examine the list of truths about you and notice where you are asking for what you already have.

Reflect-

Is knowledge of these truths an oversight on my part?

Do I have trouble receiving them on a personal level? Why?

If so, is my inability to receive them due to unbelief or mere negligence?

Hebrews 11:5 tells us that only faith pleases God. So in the verses above, instead of asking God for what we ALREADY HAVE, let’s acknowledge and humbly receive by faith what God has ALREADY GIVEN us.

And in that acknowledgment and receptivity, let’s THANK HIM for each of the heavenly gifts He has lavished on us and live as if they are true…because they are! Hallelujah to the Lamb of God!
