The Pink Ribbon

Years ago our youngest daughter struggled with separation anxiety while sleeping alone in her room. To help her feel more secure and connected to me, I cut a lengthy strand of pink (her favorite color) gift wrapping ribbon and tied one end of it to the leg of her bed. I extended the ribbon all the way down the hall to my bedroom and tied the other end to the leg of my bed.

pink ribbonMy hope was that during the night when she awoke feeling anxious, she would remember the ribbon and feel secure that we were “together” because of the ribbon connecting us. In fact, that night God answered my prayers for her when she slept peacefully through the night knowing that our beds were connected by the ribbon even though we rested in different rooms.

Feeling connected to people is one challenge, but feeling connected to God is altogether different since He abides beyond our five senses. Maintaining our connection with Him can prove arduous when life throws us crazy circumstances. The good news is that although He remains invisible to the human eye, His Spirit lives as one with us in the new creation (1 Cor. 6:17, 12:13; 2 Cor. 5:17).

Remember that even through the toughest times, our God-given faith in the final and eternal sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ breaks all barriers, holding our connection with Him secure (Rom. 8:38-39, Heb. 13:5). Next time you find yourself feeling lost or alone or disconnected from Him, remember that just like the pink ribbon connected my daughter and me, the blood of Christ connects you and Him through thick and thin.

1 Corinthians 6:17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit

1 Corinthians 12:13  For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
