“D— you, Junior! What’s wrong with you? Clean up that mess this minute!”
Is that what we say when a child spills his milk? Or maybe something similar when we drop our water bottle or coffee?
Let’s think about the basics in regards to spilling:
1. We are living on fallen planet Earth.
2. Fallen planet Earth has gravity in effect 24-7.
3. God designed it that way.
4. Anytime our opposing force does not match or exceed gravity’s force, gravity will take over automatically.
5. Our opposing force is inconsistent.
6. Gravity’s force is consistent.
7. Gravity is going to take over.
8. It is fine for gravity to take over because it was designed by God to do just that.
Thus, not if, but when we spill we could conclude the following: it is simply a confirmation to us that gravity is still in effect.
There is really no need to be upset by gravity. It is a perfectly natural, and inevitable force. In fact, in our family when one of us accidentally spills something there is no tension, no yelling, no name calling. We may say something like this: “Wow, gravity is definitely still in effect down here. Let me clean up this mess.”
I just think we might need to take a different view of gravity and let it be our friend. Next time we enter the conference room with a coffee stain down the front of our shirt, we can casually comment, “It was gravity.” Then sit down and act as if nothing big really happened. Because it didn’t.
Colossians 1:17
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
