Everyone loves a good story. We remember delighting in them as little children. We listened to them in school. We hear them today in the media.
And stories run the gamut, don’t they? There are love stories, tragic stories, fairy-tale stories, ghost stories, mythical stories, suspense stories and many others.
Did you know that of all the stories, personal stories are the most important? Yes, they are! Personal stories are most important because they hold the heart and soul of humanity, and the very building blocks of history.
The heart and soul of humanity is comprised of the hearts and souls of individuals. And what do individuals do their whole lives? They live personal stories. Behind every face is a drama, and behind every event in history there are countless personal stories that were never known, shared or captured.
Personal stories are not only moving and entertaining, but highly educational. Hearing one story can change our lives forever. We can glean helpful facts to avoid mishap, gain insight into misunderstood circumstances, receive encouragement to take that next difficult step forward or learn for the first time to our relief that in our personal struggles we are not alone.
Oh, leaving our stories untold to die with us is such a waste. For me, having learned so much, failing to share it with my fellow brothers and sisters would be unconscionable. My story, called My Journey Through the Cross, has been released recently in journal format. The journal comprises not my whole life, but a good slice documenting my search for God and how in desperation I fought through layers of falsity to find Him as He is. God gave me the title, the format, the illustrations, the timing of publishing and had orchestrated the details of my life such that the journey would take place, so I can’t take credit for any of it.Is it unnerving as an author to share so much with the whole world? It can be. But the bottom line is that when God tells us to do something, we do it. The consequences are His business. I will not one day stand before any potential readers but before Christ Himself, the Cosmic King. If one person gains one insight or takes one step forward in his own journey toward intimacy with God, then sharing my story is totally worth it. And I know at least one person will or He wouldn’t have led me to share it.
Behind every face is a drama. Be it lovely, tragic or a combination of both, the drama taking place behind every face is a secret treasure. And treasures are meant to be shared.
What treasure has unfolded in your life? What have you done with it? Have you ever considered sharing it with another, a group or even the world?
Your treasure is just waiting to be shared. Please don’t waste it.
2 Corinthians 1:5
For just as Christ’s [ own] sufferings fall to our lot [as they overflow upon His disciples, and we share and experience them] abundantly, so through Christ comfort (consolation and encouragement) is also [shared and experienced] abundantly by us.
[God] works out everything in agreement with the counsel and design of His [own] will,
SO BY whatever [appeal to you there is in our mutual dwelling in Christ, by whatever] strengthening and consoling and encouraging [our relationship] in Him [affords], by whatever persuasive incentive there is in love, by whatever participation in the [Holy] Spirit [we share], and by whatever depth of affection and compassionate sympathy,
For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning.
