Do you remember ever being the recipient of hurtful words?

What effect did they have on you?

Did they wound you?

Did they pervert your view of yourself, others or the world in general?

There is a reason that the Scriptures give us ample instruction about words and our appropriate use of them. Proverbs 18:21 even tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].

Our words can kill and give life, yet we often allow words to fly out of our mouths without giving them a second thought. Out in the marketplace, at work, in traffic and at home with family… words are everywhere. And children are especially vulnerable to words.

What words do you speak?

Did you ever think that the words you speak today could have the same effect on others as the hurtful words did that were spoken to you?

Did you ever imagine that our words are recorded forever in the quantum realm? Matthew 12:36

If our words really have the power of death and life, then they certainly are worth close examination before we allow them to exit our mouths.

Matthew 12:36
But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle (inoperative, nonworking) word they speak
